What I Do At Work

Shameless plug for my library! Our medical center has a YouTube channel, and recently posted this video about our website, MyHealthAtVanderbilt (MHAV). MHAV allows you, if you are a patient at Vanderbilt, to log into the site and access parts of your medical record (such as lab test results, immunization data) and you can send messages to your physician, access your appointment and billing data and more.

One of my responsibilities at work is working with my colleagues to integrate links to consumer health information throughout the MHAV website. This means for example, that if you are looking at your lab results and don't understand what they mean, our library provides links to websites that help explain the lab test procedure and what the results mean. We also link to and create a variety of information resources to help patients undertand their health data. This is a very rewarding project to be involved in.

This week in fact, I have been working with some co-workers in putting together a poster to present at our professional annual meeting this coming week about our work to add information targeted to kids through MHAV.

So, without further ado here is a video about the site and how it works. Just a small glimpse into a little bit more about what I do at work!

My sister is now a college graduate! Here she is with her two roommates (who are cousins to each other) after the ceremonies yesterday. And, here I am with her and our aunt. Kelli graduated with her B.A. in Anthropology and plans to take a year off and apply to Vanderbilt's Peabody College next year to pursue a Masters in Education. Meanwhile, she'll be moving to Nashville and be working at my library for a year! So, upcoming posts are going to be more likely to include Kelli too :-) More pictures are here.

I am learning how to use Windows Movie Maker, so here is yet another movie clip. This is also from the birthday party this weekend.

Yesterday was Kaleya's friend's birthday party at Chuckie Cheese - does it look like Kaleya enjoyed herself?

Daddy's on a Website! My father sent me an email a few minutes ago - he's on the front page of his local bike shop's webpage! You can't tell it's him really unless you know him, but he is the guy in the front in the second picture in the second row. Go daddy!

Last night we had a visitor show up at our door. He is the cutest cat - Kalonji told me it was the same cat that he'd seen before a few weeks ago. However, this time, the cat did not have his collar on. So, being worried about the cat, we decided to take him in and see if we could find his owner.

I've posted about him on several online lost pet sites, and will put up some signs this week. I hope we find his home, for it is obvious that he belongs to someone - he is very affectionate and has no problems with people.

We took him today to get shots and tested for feline FIV. We wanted to be able to have him around our other cats, so that was especially important. Tonight, we even experimented some and brought him inside. There was some hissing on the behalf of our cats, but they didn't do too much but look at him. He was off minding his own business and since he didn't even seem bothered by them, I am going to guess that he is from a multi-cat household as well, or else, just seen so much being outside that it doesn't phase him.

He is so adorable though. If we end up keeping him, we have already picked out a name. I won't put it in print just yet though :-)

Here is a picture of him from last night. and, of him on the way to get his shots today And, Horus just looking at him:

On a couple of the genealogy blogs I read, there is a quiz going around testing for your accent. Here are my results. I pretty much agree - I don't have much of an accent. Although, I had a friend tell me once that the only thing that I say with a southern accent is "North Carolina." When you ask me where I'm from, I pronounce it "Care-lina" -- and seem to skip the second syllable completely. And, I do happen to think I have a good voice for radio :-)

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.
